You can only do so much in one lifetime, but the tech tree in this game will take hundreds of generations to fully explore. You only live an hour, but time and space in this game is infinite.
This game is about playing one small part in a much larger story. Later the zombies would evolve and start taking ultimate forms that were difficult to kill. However to stop the infection entirely, the scientists have to fight the zombies in these dimensions in order to make sure they don't escape. To keep the zombies from leaving the facility, they had built a portalling network that would trap all zombies in an infinite network dimensions.
These creatures also had a way of multiplying themselves and would become a giant army of zombies very soon and fast. It started attacking the other subjects and scientists, who soon turned into the same creatures.
During a short coffie break, the subjecvt came back to live in an unhuman form. When the serum was tested on the first subject, the subject was in horrible pain and died. In a top secret lab, scientists were working on a top secret serum called "The Superhuman Elixir".
